Family

"To put the world right in order, we must first put the nation in order; to put the nation in order, we must first put the family in order; to put the family in order, we must first cultivate our personal life; we must first set our hearts right."
Confucius

We spent the weekend at a family baptism in Virginia. My husband's nephew and his wife had a baby boy in June. That makes my mother-in-law a great- grandmother and my husband and I a great-uncle and great-aunt. YIKES! That's just too much for me to handle. We packed the kids, the mother in-law and some bags in the car and traveled 5 hours in the car down to Virginia. It was a nice weekend spent visiting with family and enjoying the new baby. My daughter looked pretty in her dress and my boys looked quite dapper in suits!(That's a rare occasion and I took lots of pictures as I may never see them like that again for a long, long, long time!) I really don't have much else to say- We all had a nice time and I'm looking forward to more good times ahead!
Here is today's affirmation: "I am surrounded by people I Love and who Love me.
I am at peace with myself and those around me. I know that I am safe and that I am loved."
This is my definition of family. Even my 14 year old son reconnected himself with the family. I think I'm beginning to see my sonny boy starting to come back to life!
Share with me some of your great family moments. What is your definition of family?

Lovely post!

I used to have a broad definition of family ... basically any group of people caring about each other qualified. I suppose I still hold that view but I've come to realize that there is a special relationship with the family one grows up with. There's a connection ... they are people who knew me when I was a kid ... who know and understand our family background and heritage. They know me in ways that no one else will. So ... I suppose there is family ... and then there is FAMILY. Both make life worthwhile!

Family are people who care about each other whether they are related by blood or the heart.

I believe that you are both correct. There are people in my life that are not related to me by blood, yet I call them family. I also have people in my life that are related to me by blood and I never see them and they no affect on me what so ever. So, yes, family are the people who you really care about it and truly care about you. Thanks for your comments.

Family are people who care about your emotional and mental well being. They ask "how are you doing" and really want to know. They remind you to take your medication. They tell you when your outfit looks good, bad, or sleazy. They get excited with you whenever you accomplish something. Family crosses blood ties, it includes friends and some coworkers.

Hi Maureen

Recently I was asked on a facebook application to add relatives so we could build a family tree. Both of my brothers added their girlfriends as family, to which I was delighted because that meant I just inherited 2 new sisters :)So I suppose my definition of family would be - those I love, those who love me and those who love the people that I love.

Hello friend,
First of all thank you for your beautiful comment. I liked your blog and the idea you've used to propagate your message, using your own life as an example. The Confucius quote too is relevant.
Well, for me a family, means the whole world. Even if what the Bible tells is true and if Adam and Eve were the first couple of this world, then we all are descendants of them, which means that we all are related.
Since the day I realized I have stopped limiting and constricting myself to just my family. Family for me just doesn't mean my own family. Then what about the family about the other people?

Love,
CoolDeep

Beautiful post, and I love the quote at the beginning!

To me, family is unconditional love - the people who I love and who love me no matter what, and will always be there for each other.

Thanks for stopping by my blog, I love the positive tone of your blog!
